Empowering Equitable Excellence
We are a student organization committed to driving sustainable change to improve transparency, diversity, equity, and inclusion within graduate and undergraduate physics and astronomy students. Spectrum aims to provide leadership opportunities, empowerment in physics identity, and community building through mentorship in the hopes of increasing retention and parity in physics and astronomy.
We believe in science, not silence.
Spectrum began with the adoption of the Code of Professional Conduct by the George Mason University physics faculty in May 2020. This document was drafted by the founders of this organization to publicly codify our department values. We acknowledge that there are unique hurdles that members of under-represented groups face in pursuing a STEM education and commit to actively dismantling those barriers, giving everyone an equal chance to achieve their goals.
